Sometimes words fill up my mind when I have a particular experience or when I'm reflecting on an issue that I feel is important. I got really excited this morning because I got a fantastic email from my alma mater, the University of Maryland College Park's School of Public Health. I was asked to Skype in to the current class of public health students and discuss the intersection of social media and public health.

This will be the second time I have an opportunity to give back and talk to the next generation of potental public health professionals. The first time I got a chance to speak alongside the professor the brought me over from engineering to the public health world and discuss career choices with the class. To me, this is one of the biggest accomplishments I can think of for a person. To actually be asked to share their thoughts and experiences.

It's a feeling that is hard to explain -- a mixture of intense happiness, achievement, humility and belonging. That last one is big for me -- especially thinking back to my childhood and not always fitting in with a variety of groups and people's notions of who I was. All of this brings me to contemplate on a subject that I continually have in the back of my mind and with many of my life's goals.

Legacy. The portfolio of actions, feelings and changes in which the world experiences that stays with one's life even after they have passed away. That's my definition at least. This is what I want for my own life and these are those words that filled my mind this morning when I got the email.

Hope you can enjoy and in part apply to your own lives:

In spite of what I've been through and during times of feeling down -- my determination will never be lost and a legacy shall be found.
